Appropriate Headstones For The Area Climate

Selecting an appropriate headstone for marking gravesites should be based on the climate of the specific cemetery area. Granite from the southern United States may not be long lasting in the frigid winters of northern states. Granite from the south is more porous and will hold moisture. When the freezing thawing cycle occurs it expands and contracts the hairline cracks found in the southern granite. This in turn will lead to permanent damage and fragmenting of the headstone. Although most cemeteries provide grounds keepers they do not provide a repair service for headstone markers. Infact, as time marches on the relatives of the deceased will be hard to locate for payment of any repair services. Talking in advance to your monument provider can help you understand issues of this nature. More info: Headstones phoenix
