Surgery Is Often Used To Treat Breast Cancer

Typically, surgery is the first treatment option for breast cancer. Doctors thoroughly discuss this method with their patients before a final decision is made. There are two types of surgery option available lumpectomy and mastectomy.

Lumpectomy is the removal of the tumor and some of the healthy tissue surrounding the tumor. Normally, a lumpectomy is used to remove small tumors which can be easily removed. After lumpectomy surgery, radiation therapy is often used to lessen the likelihood the cancer will return.
